Why We Started the Iowa Cannabis Action Network
In November 2025, we filed the papers to incorporate the Iowa Cannabis Action Network as a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. It wasn't a decision made lightly — it was the culmination of years of watching Iowa fall further behind while neighboring states moved forward on cannabis policy.
The numbers tell a stark story. In 2022, Iowa made over 4,400 marijuana-related arrests. Black Iowans are arrested at more than seven times the rate of white Iowans for marijuana offenses, despite comparable usage rates. Meanwhile, 24 states have legalized adult-use cannabis, generating billions in tax revenue and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Iowa deserves better. That's why ICAN exists.
We're building a nonpartisan coalition of farmers, veterans, patients, business owners, and civic leaders from every corner of the state. Our work spans three pillars: policy reform, community initiatives like the Iowa Victory Garden Initiative, and public education.
This blog will be our primary channel for updates — legislative tracking, Victory Garden progress, community stories, and analysis of cannabis policy developments that affect Iowa. Subscribe to stay informed, and if you're ready to contribute, visit our Get Involved page.
The movement starts here. The movement starts with you.
