Iowa community outdoor gathering under trees

Get Involved

We're building this from the ground up. No paid staff, no corporate backing — just Iowans who decided to show up. We need you, too.

Action Alert

Iowa still criminalizes simple cannabis possession — with mandatory jail time and a 7x racial disparity in arrests. Multiple reform bills are active this session. Your voice matters right now.

Our Initiatives Need You

ICAN runs six programs aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Each one needs volunteers — no experience required, just a willingness to show up for Iowa.

2 SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Victory Garden Initiative

Help communities grow food, support local food banks, and rebuild Iowa's agricultural resilience — one garden at a time.

4 SDG 4: Quality Education

Communications

Write newsletters, manage social media, create educational content, and shape how Iowa hears about cannabis reform.

10 SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

Membership

Help grow ICAN's membership base, onboard new volunteers, and ensure our movement reflects the diversity of Iowa.

11 SDG 11: Sustainable Cities

Community Outreach

Coordinate events, build coalitions with partner organizations, and turn individual supporters into a statewide movement.

16 SDG 16: Peace & Justice

Legislative Action

Track bills, prepare policy briefs, attend committee hearings, and arm advocates with the facts they need at the Capitol.

17 SDG 17: Partnerships

Fundraising

Help secure the resources that make everything else possible — grant writing, donor outreach, event fundraising, and partnership development.

Join the Board of Directors

ICAN's Board of Directors sets strategy, ensures accountability, and steers the organization's mission. We're seeking Iowans from diverse backgrounds — especially those with experience in law, agriculture, public policy, nonprofit management, or community organizing.

Board members serve two-year terms and commit to monthly virtual meetings, committee work, and helping advance ICAN's legislative and community initiatives.

What Board Members Do

  • Set strategic direction and organizational priorities
  • Fiduciary oversight and financial stewardship
  • Represent ICAN to stakeholders and community partners
  • Serve on committees (legislative, fundraising, programs)
